Can We Lighten Up?
February has been a mix of rain and grey which leaves me craving light- sunlight and emotional lightness. The weather seems to match the political climate and many clients are talking about the heaviness of both. These deep times must be tended, and yet I can feel spring coming. I'm yearning for budding trees, sunny days at the beach, leisurely family dinners on the porch... lighter things.
A dear friend took me to a beautiful spot to celebrate an ending (and beginning) in my life for Valentine’s day. As we sat by an outside fire smelling the rosemary planted close by, she raised the question, “Are we moving towards darkness or light?”
What followed was an engaging discussion that had us conclude it’s both dark and light that are emerging now, and the challenge is how to be with both. And, we each admitted we wanted the light to "win". We spoke of the importance of seeing the challenging aspects of current reality as well, and not moving to deny or transcend those. We ended with a question...
What if holding light was the response that would help us evolve?
What does it even mean to let something be light in the midst of personal, relationship, or worldwide crisis? For me, being light means having clarity, seeing the source, being open to what is trying to show through.
Being light is practical and sensual. It feels soft, warm and smells good. Buying beautiful flowers to fill my home. Laughing with my dogs! Being kind to myself in the places I’m struggling. Crying. Letting softness in. How about you? I'd love to for you to share your thoughts on what it means to hold light in dark times!
Evolving can feel messy, dark, and hard. Let’s also allow some lightness so that we are nourished enough to stay the course through these times. And, we might like to ponder the idea that at the heart of all the shadow work is the light.
Speaking of lightness, I'm excited to welcome and introduce you to my new practice manager, Solrun. She will be your contact moving forward for scheduling, billing, and any support issues you have. Solrun manages her own wedding and event planning business from Austin, TX so she understands client care. I think you’ll find Solrun to be warm and nourishing. Solrun is originally from Iceland and likes to be outdoors, goes to many concerts, and has a passion for travel.
You’ll be hearing from Solrun in the next week as she gets you set with Spring sessions. She can be reached at support@catherinemillerhealing.com
Love and light,
