Dear Friends,

Here we are ~ passing through the new year and into the month where we celebrate Love ~ about halfway between the winter solstice and spring equinox. We have also just experienced a powerful full moon eclipse and are heading towards a partial solar eclipse on February 15th. There are many places where we can align ourselves . . . love, transformation, healing, divine love, the cosmos.

This morning I had a dozen emails suggesting that I buy something to show my love this Valentine’s day. This does not sit well with me (I’ll spare you the rant here). I really want LOVE to mean more. Perhaps Valentine’s Day, with its heart cards and chocolates, has some meaning beyond the consumer holiday? Maybe we can use the holiday to point us towards the greater power of Love?

Our country’s response to the current political climate has love front and center. Love seems to be coming forward as the powerful force of change.

As we try to transform ourselves and our world, we are cultivating love in action. It is not enough to just sit and practice on our cushion. We all have the power to apply more love to our world.

A few years ago, I was fortunate to be part group hosting Buddhist monks from India. As part of this,I was able to seek counsel from the monks and would often take client cases to them seeking their wisdom. They would listen intently as I described the challenges and shared my ideas. After each client review, they would get serious, quiet, and lean in. The advice was always the same. Apply more love. So simple and so true.

Where might you be called to apply more love?

Or, perhaps during this month of love we can contemplate divine love, the love poets such as Rumi write about?

The heart is your student

for love is the only way we learn.

Night has no choice but to grab the feet of daylight.

It’s as if I see Your Face everywhere I turn.

It’s as if Love’s radiant oil

never stops searching

for a lamp in which to burn.

This is my prayer for 2018 and I offer it to you. Let’s practice it together.
I invite you to move beyond the narrow definition of love and allow love to be something that moves through you, connecting you to all living beings. And maybe, if you are so inclined, to take your love to your community and into the streets.

BECOMING A ROSE

While we are on the topic of love, I want to share that I got married on the winter solstice to my sweetheart, Jerry Rose. I now have two step-children making us a family of 6!! I’ve been able to share the news with many of you in person and am so touched by your loving congratulations. You’ll start to see “Catherine Rose Healing” in emails and other communications.
